Nova Scotia, at the dawn of the 20th century. A community of elegant men and women are engaged in a mysterious cult.
Assembled as if to perform collective ceremonies, their eyes focused on the sky, they seem to be trying to find its limits. The very distinguished Miss Sarah Marsh, daughter of Dr Elias J. Marsh, poses gravely for the camera. Solemn gentlemen with sumptuous moustaches hold up improbable objects like totems. They pile them up on the tops of the hills, as if to invoke some divinity.
Le tour du jour en quatre-vingts mondes
Without claiming the phlegmatic elegance of Phileas Fogg, this collection shares his taste for challenges.
Its title is taken from a collection of texts by Julio Cortazar. The author, a jazz lover, jubilantly indulges in literary improvisations, to the tune of a piece of music or the contemplation of a landscape. Take a starting point, and without being either completely serious or completely reasonable, let oneself indulge in the pleasure of invention.
This collection is based on a free interpretation of previously unpublished or little-known archive photographs. The editor gleans them as she wanders through museum and library collections. From a corpus, she devotes herself to editorial work to give them coherence or absurdity. Without historical or documentary intent, without betrayal or manipulation, she creates a vocabulary, finds the music, invents a story and, in the end, a book.
This collection is printed in 100 copies.
